Products for environmentally certified buildings

Responsible construction

Today more and more properties, both new production and renovation projects, work with various types of environmental certifications to ensure optimal planning, construction and operation. The systems also help the projects to focus on the possibilities for reuse and recycling during dismantling. Working according to environmental certification systems brings many benefits, both from an environmental aspect, but also through more efficient and profitable maintenance and ultimately a higher property value.

Gustavsberg's bathroom products are equipped with smart water- and energy-saving functions that simplify and contribute to the property reaching set goals when it comes to energy efficiency and environmental benefits.

Gustavsberg launches the market's first kitchen mixers with Energy Class A

Gustavsberg launches the market's first kitchen mixers with Energy Class A

Gustavsberg has the great pleasure of launching a new range of New Nautic kitchen mixers with Energy Class A (SS-82 0000:2020). Since the standard was introduced on the Nordic market in 2010, it has been considered more or less impossible to reach the highest energy class on a kitchen faucet - both based on technical limitations but perhaps above all from a user perspective.

Gustavsberg has solved these challenges and is now launching 10 upgraded mixers. A challenge has previously been to get a sufficient water flow so that the mixer can effectively clean, for example, a frying pan - something that is now remedied with a brand new ceramic package that provides a stable temperature, an adapted flow and is very energy efficient.

This ground-breaking launch is proof of our commitment to increased resource efficiency and reduced environmental impact. We are confident that these kitchen mixers, together with our wider range of water and energy efficient solutions, will have major positive impacts for property owners, users and society.

1. MATERIAL
When it comes to ensuring the requirements for materials, we make product assessments via “Byggvarubedömningen” and “SundaHus”.

2. FUNCTIONALITY
To guarantee the functionality and suitability of the products in Nordic properties, we use CE marking or type approval.

3. INSTALLATION
To avoid water damage and to ensure that the products are installed correctly, Gustavsberg as a supplier meets the requirements of “Säker Vatten”.

4. OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
In order to meet the requirements for operational performance, we have products that meet the recommendations according to the EU taxonomy, "Miljöbyggnad", The Nordic Swan Ecolabel, BREEAM and LEED. For part of the product range, there is also energy classification standards that they are tested for.

5. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
We report a product's environmental impact via the EPD (Environmental product declaration), where a verified document covering the product's entire life cycle is reviewed by an independent third party.

Selected certification systems

We have chosen to work with a range of different certification systems where our products can influence and contribute to more sustainable properties. Here you can read more about the systems and which products we have that meet the requirements for each system.

EU taxonomy

EU definition and tools for identifying and comparing environmentally sustainable investments.

EPD

An environmental product declaration that objectively describes the environmental characteristics of goods and services from a life cycle perspective.

Miljöbyggnad

Sweden's leading environmental certification of buildings such as reviews the building's environmental performance.

BREEAM

The most common system for environmental certification in Europe with requirements that the property strongly contributes to a better environment.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

A tool for buildings that are better for the environment, the climate and the residents.

Säker Vatten installation

Swedish industry regulations with the aim of reducing the risk of i.a. water damage, legionella spread and burns.

LEED

The most internationally known assessment system with a focus on design, construction, operation and maintenance.

Energy classification

A Swedish standard for energy classification of tap water fittings where the mixer's energy performance and function are compared.

Type approval /
CE marking

Technical requirements for a product category at European or national level.

Building product assessments

Assesses construction-related products based on their environmental impact during the life cycle.

12 new mixers for environmentally certified buildings

We are continuing to develop products that help customers environmentally certify their properties. Now 12 of New Nautic kitchen and washbasin mixers have been upgraded to fulfil the requirements of the BREEAM and LEED international environmental certification schemes. The mixers are type-approved and EPD-certified and are available in models that have been approved under the Byggvarubedömningen building material assessment scheme and certified as Class B under the SundaHus material information management system.

The specially designed mixers have their own item number and RSK number and are delivered fully configured and ready for immediate installation.

Reuse and spareparts

A product's lifespan is absolutely crucial when it comes to calculating its environmental impact, and therefore our focus on spare parts is important from a recycling perspective. Many of our products are made of materials that have a long life and can withstand long-term wear and tear, therefore there are usually only a few parts that will need to be replaced. We can offer newly developed spare parts that upgrade older products (so-called upcycling kits) and provide the same new smart functionalities as new products. By being able to upgrade products, you no longer have to choose between reusing or switching to a more resource-efficient use – you can get both parts.

If a property to be renovated has products from Gustavsberg installed, there is a high probability that we can help create the right conditions for reusing these products. We believe that all “consumers” in the property, i.e. products that consume electricity, hot water and cold water, must be updated and follow a modern requirement specification for the user phase. With our products, it is possible to upgrade functional components to new versions that provide a resource-efficient product with a low CO2 footprint.

We work to ensure that our customers meet the increasingly comprehensive requirements set in various assessment and certification systems. We have products for the entire bathroom, and kitchen faucets, which comply with the EU taxonomy, "Miljöbyggnad", The Nordic Swan Ecolabel, LEED and BREEAM. We are a smart partner to everyone who projects, builds and manages sustainable properties.

Technological advances and innovations

An important aspect when it comes to making a property more resource efficient is that the complete water system needs to be mapped and documented. Otherwise, there is a great risk that an incorrectly carried out measure in a property, which on the one hand gives positive results, can lead to other major problems. A water saving areator on an older fixture can e.g. cause overflow between hot and cold water, something that significantly impairs comfort and poses major health risks. If you also use a aerator or shower nozzle that mixes in a large amount of air, aerosols are created, which further increases the risk of e.g. legionella.

Through many and long collaborations with real estate companies, care facilities and builders, we have the knowledge to create products that meet the strictest requirements for resource efficiency, but which at the same time meet the requirements for excellent comfort and high safety - always with the user in focus.
