Manufacturing porcelain at Gustavsberg
For our sanitary porcelain, we use "Genuine Vitreous China" - tightly vitrified porcelain, which is the most hygienic and durable material available for bathroom porcelain. This material ensures a tough resistant surface that lasts for years. In making our porcelain, we abide by the most stringent environmental requirements, which cover everything from the development of material and function to production, delivery and transport solutions. We work constantly to implement environmental improvements in our production processes. Environmental consideration is also reflected in the products' lifecycle, with the "complete circuit" approach making increasingly high demands on both companies and the products they manufacture. We are proud to be one of the most successful companies in this area.
Gustavberg's production processes have long since been certified in accordance with the ISO 9001 quality standard, and thanks to our commitment to working actively to apply quality and environmental routines in all parts of the company, we have also been awarded ISO 14001 certification. We strive continuously to ensure quality and environmental assurance in all phases: from initial idea, through design, testing and purchasing raw materials from our production suppliers, to the installation and commissioning of the finished products. We see quality and environmental systems as useful tools in helping us to live up to our customers' expectations. Our system is constantly monitored, both in-house and by SP - The Swedish Institute for Research and Testing, which prepared our certificates.
Manufacturing mixers at Vårgårda
Our mixers are stringently tested and their environmental statements demand a great deal of work. The entire company has been examined in detail to assess its total impact on the environment. Emissions of metals into the water are tested in line with applicable norms and according to the Nordic Committee for Building Regulations, our mixers are below the threshold limits. All the materials used in the mixers have been "food approved" by both the WCR and the FDA (Water Research Center, Food and Drug Administration).
We have been certified in accordance with EMAS, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards. Once the certification processes had been completed and the diplomas were hanging on the wall, we knew that all our efforts had paid off. Because the environment is important. To us and to you. If you would like to find out more, you are more than welcome to order a copy of our environmental statement.
The Vårgårda plant was rewarded with the EMAS Award in November 2007 for its extensive, long-term environmental work. Everything from energy- and water saving techniques in the manufactured taps to the stages of production, transports and energy usage has been improved. As an effect Gustavsberg has been able to increase the manufactured volumes but has still reduced the hazardous waste considerably.
